Aug 18, 2008 Pours a pretty opaque black with a tan ring for a head and some spotty lacing. Nice molasses and baker’s chocolate nose, decent body for a lower alcohol beer, finishes with a pleasant herbal bitterness with a touch of coffee roasted character. Quite a decent midrange porter.

Very dark brown (almost black). Latte like head was moderate but almost laceless.
The first smell was hops and a somewhat forresty feel.
The chocolate and malt hit at the same time. Full flavored over a nice texture. Thick, and a somewhat lively carbonation. Coffee flavor finished the drink to a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Much better than I expected. The influence of darker stouts without being too overpowering made this a nice glass.

Aug 17, 2008 Pours black with a thin light brown head. Aroma is of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Has a nice balance of hops and malts. Nice roasty and bitter finish.

Aug 17, 2008 Toasted, coffee aroma. Thick, bubbly, brown head, lots of lacing. Woody, toasted, coffee taste. Palate resembles drinking warm whipped cream, fantastic, but purely a winter beer.

Aug 11, 2008 (Bottle). Aroma of dark chocolate and coffee. Deep dark brown, with a thin brown head. Roasty flavor, with a bit too much tobacco. LOVE the bottle label!

Aug 7, 2008 Dark brown pour with tan head and lace it even looks creamy. Toasted malt, coffee, and chocolate on the nose. Thick chocolate flavor and burnt coffee and a very good bitter on the taste. Creamy full mouthfeel. Nice finishing bitter and a lingering choco flavor as well.

Aug 2, 2008 12oz bottle served in an English pint glass. Very dark brown pour capped by a thin layer of tan foam. Smells of chocolate, anise, coffee. Big rich roasted flavor with some dark chocolate, wood, and licorice notes. Very powerful flavor, somewhat reminiscent of and imperial stout. Lots of complexity for only being 5.7% abv.

Jul 31, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours black with a moderate brown head that lasted through half the glass and left very little lace. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. There are stouts that I wish smelled this rich and good. The flavor is quite different with light chocolate and roast, with a more dominating tobacco flavor. Moderate bitterness at the finish. I would have liked this one much better were it not for the strong tobacco flavor.
