Bottle. Pours with a deep ruby almost black color and a medium head with good lacing. The aroams are mainly of coffee and molasses wiith a bit of chocolate. Flavorwise it is on the bitter side where coffee and dark roasted malts dominate. The finish is lingering and quite bitter.

Bottle into English pint glass. Pours a medium bodied deep, opaque brown. The head was actually a duo-color tan and chocolate, and it dissipated down to a thin layer that carried through the entire drink. Aroma is even caramel, chocolate, rich roast coffee. Frankly, I’m not a big fan of coffee notes in porters, but this one is balanced as nicely as any I’ve tried with that characteristic. The flavor is an initial dark choco, almost sweet, with the coffee bringing up the rear, hangin out on the mouth. The palate is mid-level heavy, which isn’t surprising. There’s also a smokey hazelnut coffee sort of oliy clinging that isn’t quite as pleasant. In the end, this is a very drinkable porter. Nothing extreme, nothing paint-by-numbers blah. Nicely done.

Pours dark brown, with brownish head that goes away on third sip. Aroma is rife with dark chocolate, espresso, tannin. Taste is very smooth. Some sweetness to counter bold chocolate bitters and sturdy hop presence. A bit thin in the body for my taste, and alcohol is a bit caustic. However, this is a fine brew, and probably the best of Smutty’s non-seasonal stuff.

Thanks to JCB for this one! Black pour, tan head and some spotty lacing. Roast aroma. thick and dry. Lots of roast and some coffee on the finish. Slightly metallic and a little sticky

Roasted malts and coffee on the nose. More of the same in flavor with a very dry bitterness, with coffee and dark chocolate in the finish. Good brew but a little too dry for me.

Pour is a black with a average tan head. Aroma is a nice mix of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is more of a bitter dark chocolate with some smoke and black liquorice. Hits all the points of a good porter. Very decent beer that is easy to drink.

Bottle. 12 fl. oz. An opaque, black beer with a fine, dark tan head that quickly dissapates. Aromas of brewed coffee, dark chocolate, raisin, and licorice. Light bodied with a very dry mouthfeel. An overall heavy roasted, bitter flavor with a decent amount of sweetness on the back end.Very tasty, but still leaves me wanting more from this beer.

"From a bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown with a thick brown head that laces all the way down the glass. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Little thin in the mouthfeel. Flavor is sweet and chocolatey with coffee undertones. A nice bitterness at the finish. A pretty good beer."
