The brew is dark brown with a tan, one-finger head, and a sweet, malty aroma. This is a full-flavored Yankee porter with a strong coffee taste. Solid maltyness, but not syrupy sweet. Well-hopped too. Nothing to gripe about in this fulfilling, well-blended beer - except perhaps the Starbucksian dominance of the flavor with coffee. rocbyter (926), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA

Pours dark black with a rich short lived brown head. Smell is roasty chocolately malt. Nice and rich.
Taste is equally if not more rich, dark and roasty and lightly bittered to perfectly balance. Full bodied and just the perfect palate for a porter with light to moderate carbonation. Light burnt roasty notes and some coffee flavors appear without it being a coffee beer. Some light hops and dusty chocolate in the finish. What an incredible and drinkable porter this is. Up there with Troegs Dead Reckoning, and Nogne O Porter for my absolute favorites in the style, and otherwise. Papsoe (15107), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Vinous, delicios aroma with dried fruits and some burned malt. Medium body with hard roasted malt notes, a little metal and ashes but also pleasant rounded notes of dried fruit. Dry finish with a discreet malt bitterness. 120308 jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

Abundant roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate aromas. Off to a great start! Creamy mouthful with plentiful chocolate and espresso notes, but still plenty of roastiness. Ever so slight bittersweetness. An excellent porter. Thanks to Imadeadguy for sending this want list item. fredandboboflo (1431), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Bottle. Roasted malt aroma with coffee and chocolate. Flavor becomes all that more roasted, coffee filled, and chocolatey. All the roastedness remains luscious and powerful without ever becoming overbearing or soiling the palate. Strong throughout. Fine, fine beer. Jblauvs (619), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2008 pours a dark almost opaque brown with a tannish brown head. aroma of cocoa, coffee, sweet malt, and some earthy notes. taste is chocolately, a bit milky, coffee, roasty malt, subtle sweetness. mid-full bodied with a bubbly, foamy mouthfeel. nice bitterish choco-coffee bitter tail end. really nice! will definitely buy again (if i ever see it around here again!). it might be a little too ’chocolate milk’ for some, and a bit too sweet for others. i thought it was excellent though, full of flavor. not overly complex, but a really nice session brew.
