Nov 27, 2007 Pours black and dark leaving a dark brown ring for a head. Aroma is lightly roasted malts, with a touch of coffee and chocolate to boot. Taste is very rich, full of roasted coffee, leather, and soil notes. This is a really flavorful porter. This drinks more like a stout but with a lighter and cleaner mouthfeel. What a great porter from a brewery that has yet to dissapoint me. Can’t say enough good things about this porter, one of my best porter experiences so far.

Nov 26, 2007 12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a frothy tan head. Nose of grapes and brown sugar. Medium light body, light fizzy carb. Dark roast coffee and chocolate. Dry, hoppy finish. Soild, but unspectacular.

Nov 20, 2007 Aroma carried a hint of licorice with some roast notes, it was very lovely, nice combination. poured dark and thick like used motor oil and left a nice tan head on the beer. flavor was really nice. some roast, coffee, chcoclate, and a hint of licorice and anise. very nice velvety palate. a well done porter.

Nov 18, 2007 12oz. bottle into pint glass. Pours a thick, dark brown with a medium tan head that laces nicely. Heavy aromas of roasted malts, coffee beans, chocolate and a hint of caramel. Flavor is excellent with a great balance of roasted malts, and thick coffee hints with a mild toffee sweetness to finish. Mouthfeel is thick and robust. Good job Smuttynose!

Nov 16, 2007 Updated: Jun 10, 2008Bottle thanks to artusory. Pours a deep brown color with a nice beige head that diminishes quickly. Aroma of roasted malts and some chocolate, with a hint of coffee as well. Ah, a delightful taste. Just the right mix of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate combined with just the right amount of bite. Nice, easy-drinking porter that is what its name suggests, robust. Thanks a lot Ryan.

Nov 4, 2007 Impressive! Bottle. Deep dark brown with a tan head. Heavy aroma of malts, hops, chocolate, and maybe espresso. Taste is a complex combination of chocolate, malts, hops and coffee/espresso. One of the better porters I’ve ever had.

Nov 4, 2007 Pours a beautiful dark brown color into the English Pint. A quick inch of tan head left a coating of lace on the glass. The scent was of chocolate, barley, malt and espresso. A big coffee taste accompany the malt presence. Robust is an excellent way to describe this porter. A rich and full mouthfeel and thick and full play on the palate.
