| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 27, 2009 This is a bottle that is after the best before date, so this might not be as high as a fresher rating might get. Has basically a pure black color with some brown head. I can smell sweeter malts, chocolate, a little coffee, and a roasty slightly smoked scent. Taste is full of chocolate and malts. Similar to a good brown ale. Aftertaste leaves a little bite, but nothing that’s obscene. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 27, 2009 Pours dark brown with a dark beige head. Great big ol’ chocolate nose with a bit of coffee and roast. More coffee flavor than chocolate but they are both still very robust and good as hell. Medium/full body with appropriate carbonation. Roasted dry finish. Very very good beer. shawnm213 (957), South Bend, Indiana, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 12, 2009 Near-black pour with a frothy tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts and milk chocolate. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is dark, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate... a recipe for bitterness but this one is smooth. Lingering milky chalikiness, lactose?, bit of citrus/orange hoppage towards the finish. Solid and tasty but I’m surprised it’s rated so high with so little complexity.
