I thought this beer was quite good; it was the name says, a quite robust porter. Lots of very dry roastiness with some bitterness and some nice accompanying flavors. Very good.
It pours black with a tall root beer-like head which was tan in color and demonstrated some durability. Aroma was lots of dry roastiness with some measure of toffee, coffee, and chocolate smells. The first flavor that hits you is a big amount of bitterness brought on by just how much dry roastiness there is in the flavor which is accompanied by some chalky mouthfeel, followed with a sweeter and smoother finish. About half-way down the glass, the mouthfeel seem smoother and slicker as well.
I thought this beer was quite good, and i would recommend it as a very fine (dry) porter. I bought this bottle at Woodman’s in Oak Creek.

Jul 13, 2008 Bottle from Janie 08’. Black with nice beige head. An all around well balanced and crafted porter that falls right down the stylistic requirements. If you picture a porter profile in your mind you are thinking of this beer.

Jul 8, 2008 Bottle courtesy of hellbilly. Pours an opaque black with one finger tan head. Nose is Chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is coffee grinds, smoke, toasted malts and dark, bitter chocolate with a sour, hoppy finish. Light to medium mouth feel. Very good porter – thanks Joshua!

Jul 2, 2008 Bottle from the Smuttynose variety pack. This is my favorite from the 4 included. A very balanced porter. A lot of malt, some coffee in the nose and in the aftertaste. Solid porter would buy again

Jul 2, 2008 Heavy chocolate and coffee aromas on pour with a nice brown foamy head an a black, black body. A smooth porter with little disturbance on the way down the way a good one should be. Sits very nice on the palate with just the slightest of all bitterness. Me like.
