Mar 28, 2003 this beer looks absolutely gorgeous in the glass, deep, dark amber-black with a light brown head. aroma is fantastic as well, roasted coffee and chocolate as well as something else i can't place, something sweet. perfectly hopped with a bitter finish. this is an intensely great beer and i applaud the brewers at smuttynose for putting this one together.

Feb 20, 2006 Thanks to Lou18 for this one. Poured dark black with a light brown head. The aroma was HUGE coffee, bread, chocolate, carmel, and malts. Unbelievable coffee smell, add in the other aromas and combine and you have a beer orgasm. Flavor is coffee, nuts, and chocolate. Lush malt body with the perfect balance. The flavor and aroma are superb. What a joy this one is.

Jan 16, 2004 This beer was almost perfect. A sweet creamy flavour with coffee and chocolate notes mixed with a mild taste of hops. The only let down was the head was kind of small and was a little water on the tounge. Truly a robust porter.

May 1, 2004 Pours deep brown with a caramel head that is thick and dense. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and caramel. Coffee flavor is most prominent but also bittersweet chocolate, caramel and toffee. Good sweetness with excellent lacing. Smooth, creamy, thick and rich with excellent hop and malt balance. Very little alcohol bite. Great palate with bitter finish. Excellent beer, a must try.

Apr 6, 2003 I've had several porters so far, and this one was another excellent one. It's defining characteristic is it's abundance of hops flavor and roasted flavor, with the typical hints of coffee and chocolate. A winner!
