Clear reddish brown with a one finger creamy beige head, fair retention. Plenty of sweet caramel and toffee sits atop some lightly smoky peated malt--mmmm. There are also light hints of dry wood. Flavor delivered what the aroma promised with plenty of smoke and peated malt to make me happy, and enough dry woody notes to keep the caramel and toffee from getting cloying--I was just a tad nervous that they’d used candy sugar, but you wouldn’t be able to tell. There was also a salty tobacco note. Dry finish with bitterness peaking around a 2-3. The alcohol was nicely warming, but not hot or boozy. Smooth medium body with moderate carbonation. Not much makes me happier than a good Scotch ale, and this is no exception. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A bit of dried fruit, some nuts and candi sugar. Decent malt profile, possibly a bit overcarbonated for the style. Somewhat dry finish. Pleasant, tasty but a bit nondescript. blutt59 (2145), Dallas, Texas, USA

This one was totally malt based and had lots of brown sugar and honey overtones, with very small undertones of cane sugar and beet juice. There was minimal hoppiness and actually a slight bit of astringentness, but this beer was quiet honestly amazingly drinkable and succulent. Succulently pleasant is the best way to describe this masterpiece. Really one of a kind and remarkable.

Rich maltiness, brown sugar, light rum and chewy sweetness. A bit of plumminess on the back. Rich palate, sweet but not cloying, silky mouthfeel. Lingering kettle caramelization and rich peaty smoke. No complaints about this one.
