Beerman6686 (1271), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 8, 2009 This one poured a nice copper color with a white head. Aroma was slightly grassy, a bit sweet and some herbal and citrus musty hops too. Flavor was light crisp pale ale, nice balance if slightly bitter hops and pale malt. BroSpud (592), , Massachusetts, USA Nov 7, 2009 12oz bottle. Your basic pale ale here. Very drinkable, nice caramel taste with just enough hops. Very well done though nothing out of the ordinary for this style. MrBunn (1524), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 2, 2009 Bottle. Has the color of a tarnished penny and supports a dense but small head. Aromas of caramel and peppery spices with a little bit of citrus. Flavor has quite a bit of caramel and bready malt with lots of spice and bitter grassiness in the finish. Pretty decent stuff. Hank1980 (735), Athens, Georgia, USA Oct 31, 2009 Bottle. Poured a clear pale golden, with a small white head. Aroma of citrus hops, with lemon & orange coming through. Some light sweet malt in there as well. Taset is similarly straight forward, with the hops hitting early and in the finish, plenty of citrus and a sweet malt backing. Mouth is medium.
Cheers..
Pane e birra!! GoBlue (101), Falls Church, Virginia, USA Sep 25, 2009 Poors golden amber and slightly cloudy. Nice citrusy aroma. Good malt and hop balance. Bitterness very pleasant and hop flavor very nice. A very good pale ale Berley31 (185), New Brunswick, Canada Sep 19, 2009 A: Poured with an average-sized, off-white head... diminished after a couple of minutes to a thin film. Body is a dark golden color, and hazy.
S: Mmmm... APA goodness. Smells quite hoppy, with a little sweetness in there as well. I think I may detect some lemon/lime also.
T: Oh yeah, that’s some good APA. Starts off lightly sweet and citrusy, and finishes slightly bitter. Not as bitter as I would have expected from the aroma... an excellent balance as it isn’t overwhelming, yet provides a bit of everything, with a good duration.
M: Awesome on the palate as well. Medium-bodied and creamy, it rolls across the tongue perfectly. Average carbonation... just right.
D: A great APA; very easy to drink... this is a beer I could drink at the beginning or end of the night, and several of them. Quite floral, and very satisfying. My first Smuttynose beer, and I’m looking forward to more in the near future (hopefully). Elwood (677), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Sep 13, 2009 Serving: 12 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Hazy, deep amber with a frothy, light tan head. Decent head retention. Spotty lacing left behind.
Aroma: Very fruity nose with hints of berry and caramel. Kind of unique.
Taste: Caramel, solid balancing bitterness, berries, and a little earth. A bit different than most pale ales, but well crafted and tasty. Really good malt character.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium, crisp mouthfeel. Medium-long, slightly bitter finish.
Overall: Highly sessionable, this one is definitely worth a go. One of the better pale ales I’ve had in recent days.
