Clear amber color with a white head. Aroma of hops, some flowers notes, light earthy notes and some malt. Flavor starts sweetish with malt, a bit of caramel and a bit of nuts and finishes with pleasant hoppy bitterness. Medium-bodied. Quite tasty. maugus4ever (121), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2008 Pours a nice copper color with a white head and good lacing. Great combination of malts and hops makes this pretty complex. I like that this is more hopped than most pale ales. jb (1043), Rochester, New York, USA

Peaty aroma, dough, grassy, maple syrup. Malty palate, very smoky. On the malty side of balance, surprised this is a ’pale’,
the hops don’t quite seem to balance the crapload of malt.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Nov 20, 2008 11/10/08 notes: bottle. Pours an unusual amber-brown color with a medium-sized, white head. Aroma is toasty, with peet, soil, hops, and citrus. Complemented by a light body, this pale ale was certainly unusual: it was heavily hopped – which lended estery flavors -- but also with unusual toasted, bitter, and tart-citric notes as well. Certainly unusual, and I know I wouldn’t want more than a couple of these at once. Low points on drinkability, but I’ll will say, Shoals PA has distinctive and not unpleasant character. blipp (1679), Newark, New Jersey, USA

Well balanced aroma with sweet malt and hops. The flavor is light but well balanced, a touch sweet with hops in the finish. Nice. epf33 (222), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2008 Poured from 12 oz bottle, a hazy, somewhat dirty looking amber. Aroma of hops, grass, caramel and wet forrest leaves. Flavour was much of the same, malty tones with some grittiness, along with some hop resin, really give this so-called English a definite American character to me. Yeah, you can get the English flavour, but in the end it comes across more like an APA. Bottom line, its very good beer.
