| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2008 Poured from 12 oz bottle, a hazy, somewhat dirty looking amber. Aroma of hops, grass, caramel and wet forrest leaves. Flavour was much of the same, malty tones with some grittiness, along with some hop resin, really give this so-called English a definite American character to me. Yeah, you can get the English flavour, but in the end it comes across more like an APA. Bottom line, its very good beer. meisterbrauMHB (53), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2008 dark and hoppy with a dishdetergent like taste that is somewhat sweet astringent and tangy. seems almost like an ordinary beer at like 3x’s the strength. small wirey white head but with good body, the beer is fruity and a bit toffee like somewhat harsh in flavor and yet refined in body it is unbalanced with a grapefruit rind taste that arrives a few minutes after pouring just when the suds and fishwater exits. czeck like hop character that is 3x as strong and bitter and lngers on the tongue. compex, a bit strange and also good. the Brits could learn something. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2008 I like the color on this, a little towards brown of a typical Pale Ale. Smuttynose wasn’t shy with the bittering hops, which is totally balanced by malty sweetness, and I find drinking this beer to be a generally very pleasant experience.
