I enjoyed this brew, my first time having the Shoals Pale Ale; I very much enjoy their IPA. Pours rich golden color, medium head. Aromas of citrus and pine; dry hop flavor. Good overall brew and I will definitely have this again. kassner (468), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 2, 2008 From a 12 fl. oz bottle with an expiration date of August 2008. Pours a ruby-copper with an off-white head that stays atop the glass for the session. A little hoppy on the nose. The hops are in the flavor too but there are subtle malts too. Not quite as bold as an IPA but it has some of those characteristics. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 1, 2008 Beautiful dark copper body with a lightly off white head. The aroma is oranges and floral notes. There is a carmael hint. The taste has some bitter grapefruit rind with some burnt bread crust. There is also a little bit of musk and oak. There isn’t much to balance out the bitter burnt type charcter. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Pours amber with tan head. Aroma of fruit, bread and malt with a touch of pine. Flavor is average, but blended nicely. ParkSloper (16), New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Aroma is slighlty bready with a grassy whiff of hops. Color is copper with a medium head. Flavor starts out with classic fruity ale esters, mellowing into a bready malt, brought to a firm close by an almost piny bitterness. Palate is typical of American pale ale. Overall, a lovely anytime beer that also harmonizes well with flavorful food. changeup45 (799), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Updated: Sep 26, 2008Deep amber color which was darker than expected and poured a nice thick tan head and left a lot of lace behind. Pretty smoooth, easy drinking beer, with a decent hop/malt balance but it’s lacking a little. There’s a wood, piney presence in there as well. Slightly bitter aftertaste. Something I’d definitely have again but not the best from Smuttynose. I love their IPA. I just purchased their variety pack and after this one I am anxious to try the others they have to offer. bhensonb (4360), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of somewhat roasted malt backed by mild hop. Coppery color with a decent off-white head. Medium body with very smooth carbonation. Sort of biscuit with spicy, fruity hop. It’s not citrus or pine, I think. Ends well balanced on the dry side. Very interesting. Not overly hoppy, but hoppy enough. Sort of a rough ESB.
