Commercial Description:
Copper-colored ale is medium-bodied and highly hopped. Its flavor is delightfully complex: tangy fruit at the start, with an assertive hop crispness and a long malty palate that one well-known beer writer has compared to the flavor of freshly-baked bread.

Clear amber with little head. Hoppy, but not overly hoppy, well balanced with malt and herbal notes. More in the English style. Dry slightly bitter finish. Medium to thin body.

Bottle sampled. Pours a light amber with a white head. Aroma of light hops, citrus, and pale malts. Flavoris medium bodied with caramel, and light fruitness with a floral bitter finish.

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

Pours from the bottle to a nice copper color, with thousands of infused carbonation bubbles and a thick off-white head that lingers thru most of the glass and leaves very good lacing. Aroma is predominantly citrus hops (grapefruit and lemon) but also a hint of malt. Flavor follows suit perfectly, begining with the hoppy citrus fruit, then slowly moving to a hint of malty dark fruit. Finish is not very bitter, but is a nice mixture of being dry from the hops and sweet from the malt. I had read a lot about Smutty and was excited to try one. My first was a Portsmouth Lager, which I found disappointing. However, this Shoals Pale Ale exhibits all the quality I had expected. Good job Smutty!

Pours a cloudy amber brown with no head. Nose is citrus hops and a good bit of them. Flavor is slightly salty with a hop edge. Even flavor pattern. Feel is standard. Nice level of bubble on the tongue and a smooth thicker liquid feel. Very drinkable. A smooth and solid pale ale.

Slight swirl in the pour of this 12 oz bottle. Some gunk on the bottom afterwards. Yeasty aroma with a slight metallic hint. Very bitter medicine that hangs for quite a while. Intense citrus rind bang that fades rapidly only to leave a building bitter lingering soap finish.

Smells very well balanced between malty sweetness and citrusy hops. Pours a nice deep orangish copper color. Taste is balanced hops and malts. A little more hops wouldnt hurt though.
