Aug 5, 2005 Cask conditioned - gravity dispense GBBF 2005. This won best American cask ale at GBBF again - at the least the second time in three years, but for me it was very disappointing in its plainness. Amber coloured with a pleasant hop aroma but a bit of a compost heap rotting smell. The taste had some nice hop notes and a little caramel. All very unspectacular sadly.

Aug 4, 2005 Pours a brownish orange body, slightly hazy. Aroma is a little bit fruity and spicy, but also slightly hoppy. That doesn’t really describe it very well though. Earthy or doughy might be better. Finishes fairly sweet with some hop bitterness that lingers. Flavor is much better than the relatively weak aroma. I can’t believe this is one of the best pale ales out there.

Jul 30, 2005 clear copper, off white head. aroma of leafy, earthy hops with mild resin and a whiff of barnyard. toasty malt and caramel flavours with mild orange and leafy pithy hop finish. nice

Jul 22, 2005 Hazy brown body with off whiye head when poured from my 12oz. bottle. The nose was balanced malts and hops, with yeast. Spices come out in the taste. Well done.

Jul 15, 2005 Semi-hazy bronze with a tiny, swirling, bubbly head. Aroma leads with fresh hops along with elements of cotton, dryer sheets and whole wheat bread playing a supporting role. Hops hit up front for flavor, then gently recede to a honeycomb sweetening. Very much in line with a scaled back version of Smuttynose’s IPA. Some accents of gingerale and bran flakes, wrapping up with a dash of salt or citric oranges. Dry and lively on the palate. A decent pale ale. Thanks to tpkenned for the Smuttynose connection!

Jul 12, 2005 Bottle. Pours hazy copper with little white head. Mostly hoppy flavors with some malts, but flavor doesn’t last too long, probably because of way too much carbonation - a harsh and distracting on the tongue.

Jul 8, 2005 Bottle. A copper pour with a slight thin white head. Very hoppy but the hops fade fast. Very flavorful pale.
