Commercial Description:
Light, tasty & full of character, our summer wheat ale is brewed with a combination of domestic and continental wheat and barley malts, lightly hopped & fermented with a Belgian wit yeast, resulting in a delightfully tangy & refreshing flavor. This beer is brewed for warm weather enjoyment. Bring some to your next picnic, barbeque or Frisbee game.

hazy straw-yellow with a sudsy white head. tangy wheat, bit sulfury, and some earthy to floral hops in the nose. Nice malty backbone with a bit of spice and some light toast in the finish. light and easy drinking summer brew!

This was disappointing to me since Smuttynose is generally consistently good. Pours yellow / golden with a light haze and an off-white frothy head. The aroma is chalky, floral, perfumy and wheaty ~ kinda ’meh’. Medium body that is fairly rough with light, but harsh, carbonation. The flavor starts like the aroma, but drier. The finish shows a bit of hops. Fair.

The aroma coming off this beer was the most imressive part. The pour was nice with good lacing and head too. As for taste, it wasnt bad but it was a bit too fruity for my taste. There was an overwhelming taste of apricot that took away from everything else. Much like a magic hat #9 but far more intense.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear golden color; off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Good amounts of toasty wheat and light bubble gum in the aroma; slightly bland. Medium mouthfeel: lively carbonation; toasty wheat, light citrus and spices; cloves and a touch of white pepper; solid presence in the mouth and very drinkable; more complex and soft-edged than a lot of wheat ales; touches of a wit character. Very nicely drinkable rendition. Medium finish: lots of toasty malts, wheat, and touches of bubble gum and citrus / mineral bitterness.

Aug. 16, 2008; 12 oz. bottle from a Smuttynose sampler 12-pack. This ale underscores the importance of rating a brew in season. Tangy, slightly spicy, citrusy, refreshing. Lasting bitterness on the back of the tongue. Couldn’t really ask for more from a wheat ale. Probably wouldn’t want to be drinking this in the dead of Winter, but it’s quite satisfying in August.
