(Draught) Pours a cloudy pale yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of mustiness, wheat, and grass. Flavor of sour lemon, lactic yeast, some peach, and wheat with a dry finish.

Quite hazy, with a straw, murky hue. The aroma is tart, with substantial funky cheese notes, lots of yeasty character (smells a bit like fresh yeast spooge from the fermenter), notes of lemon and a definite lactic edge.

The taste is nice and tart, with a lemon-like acidity to it that is mostly lactic in character. Lots of murky yeast flavors provide a backdrop for the up front tartness; these combine with the wheat character to provide flavors of an over-yeasted raw dough. This is pretty full bodied for a Berliner Weiss, it is actually almost chewy, which is certainly a change of pace for the style. It is not nearly as well integrated or drinkable as the better examples of the style, but it is still enjoyable and most definitely worth trying. If I had to guess, I would say a touch more conditioning would go a long way towards making this a great example of the style.

GABF’08. Another on the mark looking Berliner Weisse. It a murky, dead straw/yellow color. Aroma is lightly musky and simple wheat coming through. The taste is the best part with a light citric fruit aspect. This comes off as tart (or more like zesty). Mouthfeel has a few acidic spikes which go in line with the citric-like aspect. A bit fuller body than expected for a Berliner Weisse. This was my favorite Berliner Weisse at the fest out of a handful of different ones.

G.A.B.F. 2008: Cloudy yellow with a bubbly white film of head. Bright nose with fruity and mildly tart notes of lemon peel and apricot. Light crisp body. Nice tartness in the flavor. Lemony and mildly acidic- tart peach notes and citric hints into the clean finish. A solid interpretation!

Cloudy milky light yellow colored body. Mild lactic yogurt yeast in the nose, spicy lemon and weizen yeast esters, all in all a really nice aroma. Prickly on the tongue, the distinct flavor of lemon juice and herbs (thyme, fennel) throughout, along with a milky tartness and a light but sweet lactic yeast note... it’s very refreshing and vibrant. Herbs and lemon juice notes especially are nose, and the citrus acidity and sweet lemon fruitiness make for a really nice berliner weisse.
