Pours a deep black, brown body with a thin whitish head. Spicy, carbonic nutty and hoppy nose. Tingles the nostrils. Mildly metallic and malty with a big hop spiciness. Very nice NW Porter style. Crisp, clean, and refreshing.

Bottle. Poured brown black with frothy beige head. Much lacing. Aroma of smoke and roast malt. Very smoky flavour, a little chocolate, a little roast, but mostly smoke. Tangy smoky finish, with more roast.

One of the better beers at the brewery. Poured jet black with some bubbly froathy tan head. Aroma strong coffee and roasted malts. Flavor very creamy with dominant bitter coffee flavor. Dry finish.

Somewhat roasty, somewhat malty, somewhat coffee bean.... Overall it is extremely mild and non-offensive. Borderline boring. Faint hop finish - not smokey at all, not sure where they got that. Even fainter bitter chocolate. Mild and boring, not bad, but nothing daring or special.

on tap-pours a light brown head that laces and black color. Aroma is mild dark malt-chocolate/licorice, roasty, dark fruit. Taste is dark malt-coffee/chocolate/licorice, roasty, dark fruit, secondary/faint hops bite. Coffee after taste.

12-oz. Black. Thick, moussy, quickly dissipating tan head. Nice webs of lace. Chocolatey, cocoa-y, chalky nose. Nice creamy high-medium body. Soft carb. Mild flavors on the mid-palate; chocolate for sure, maybe a little bit of roast. Tangy chalk in the finish. Not too shabby.

Nitro tap at the brewery on 7-22-2004. Dry hopped version. Pours a dark brown with minimal head. This was served pretty cold so the aromas were faint at first. When it warmed up it had a mild roasted malt smell along with a whiff of fresh floral hops. Light to medium bodied. Up front the taste was of toasted grains and bittersweet chocolate followed by a fairly strong floral hop bitterness not unlike an IPA. I guess thats what they were aiming for when they brewed this , a porter with pale ale qualities. Good stuff.
