Commercial Description:
Summer Beer is a Pre-Prohibition Pils, brewed alt style. This beer is crisp, clean, refreshing and hoppy, Inspired by the long-forgotten beverage of our great-grandparents, our "twist" is that we ferment this beer with our exceptionally clean ale yeast at much lower than normal temperatures, which imparts a somewhat different character compared to lager yeast. In the Pre-Pro style, we use a small proportion of maize (corn). The noble (and expensive) Czech Saaz hop variety is used through-out, and gives this beer a spciy herbal character and dryish finish. This new rendition of an old classic will add a unique contrast to any line-up!!

Nice - a local competitor to the likes of Prima. 22 oz. bottle - poured a yellow-orange...pilsnery color. There’s clearly more going on here than in a normal pils. The saaz-hop aftertaste mingles well with (but is distinct from) the tangy/citrus taste up front. I didn’t get any maize/corn notes at all, and a bit more of a balanced/varied palate would really propel this into the top tier of pilsners/alts. As it is, this is a nice, refreshing summer beer.

22 oz bottle brought back from Seattle. pours a clear and bubbly straw color with a bright white and supple head atop. grassy and pale malt aroma with some typical clean american pilsener yeast and adjunct notes. lightly fruity, with some lemon and pepper characteristics as well. a nice summer brew - a good crisp pils is a beautiful thing!

Bronze with fluffy soap bubbly head. Lots of tiny, beaded upward carbonation. Pleasant, refreshing zing of what and citrus hit the nose. Flavor is a crisp wheaty, bitter-sourness with citrus twang. To me this tastes like an interesting summer wheat beer, though I do not believe any wheat or citrus are used in the beer. Light, crisp, zingy.

22oz bottle. Light golden color with significant floaters. Dry and crispy, with a solid malt backbone. Some nice fruity esters from the ale yeast. The maize adds quite nicely to the body and mouthfeel. Quality Saazy hop character that linger in the aftertaste. Great beer.

Draught. Poured cloudy with foamy white head. Much lacing. Malt aroma. Sweetish malty flavour with a bit of hop. Malt and hops finish. This was German beer as German beer was 200 years ago.

8/27/08 On draught at the Dog & Pony, Renton, Wa. Aroma is malty earth with a strong honey undertone. Appearance is clear yellow with a well maintained white head and great lacing. Flavor is sweet/sour honey forward with moderate earthy bittering. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carb texture and light starchiness. Overall, a little funky; this is promising with each of its parts but doesn’t go together that well.
