Lunkie (1006), Glen Iris, Australia Jun 17, 2008 Spicy sweet malt hop aroma. Clear dark red colour with good head and lacing. Spicy malt flavour with a hint of smokeyness. Smooth palate. voota (754), Melbourne, Australia Apr 2, 2008 This stuff was surprisingly ok... Pours more brown than red with a small head. Lots of rich toffee runs the aroma, a touch of earthy hops and chestnuts. Medium body, flavour shows a lot of specialty malts, toffee and some nutty dryness work pretty well. Sweet , malty finish. You could do much worse. MBison (356), Southern Highlands, Australia Feb 14, 2008 Bottle (330ml). Poured a amber with a off-white, creamy small head which was average lasting. Aroma was of candy sugar, berries, spices, caramel malts and some butterscotch in the back. Flavor was of sweet malts with no bitterness present with some mixed berries, toffee (sweet) and a very mild spiciness. Light bodied with soft carbonation, watery texture, creamy mouthfeel and a short finish. Arassuil (13), Australia Dec 6, 2007 A nice aroma that didn’t seem to carry over to its taste. After a good start, it fell off about half way through. Still, an enjoyable red ale akin to tha American macro, Killians Red. highlandlad (1184), Sydney, Australia Nov 27, 2007 Red ales. What are they good for? Too thin for a nightcap, too sweet for a session. This one is dominated by that queer fish among hops, Simcoe. Odd choice for the style, I would have thought, with its scent-echo of feral cats pissing in pine forests. Razorback Red Ale is a ruddy brown with a head as thin as the grass cover on Snowy Mountain summits. The aroma seemed plain peculiar. My first thought was of that weird Australian plant that smells like catteries. Vegetal, genital, metal. There’s a bit of it in Canberra for some reason, perhaps to cover the stench of backroom deals. Strong Ribena blackcurrant notes mixed with brass rubbings and oregano. Quite a thick, oily mouthfeel, low on carbonation. Blackcurrant notes, caramalt, walnuts - generally sweet and fruity. Minimal bitterness. A very strange brew. Confused. Far too sweet for my palate. (330ml bottle from Randwick Village Cellars, well overpriced at $4 a single)
