| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2005 On Tap at brewpub: Murky brown with a reddish hue. It showed a nice head for a while and turned into clinging light brown lacing. It had a sweet? hoppy aroma with a great bitter aftertaste. Although, I must add that it isn’t as bitter as other BW’s I have had with Indiana_Red. The feel was creamy and delightful on a cold winter night in Boise, Idaho. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Hazy caramel pour, tiny white flecks of a head. Caramel and alcohol form most of the aromatic components while biting orange and soapy hops, sprucey and resinous offer a counterpart. Even soapier in mouth, trying hard to feel English, but the greenish attempted freshness, leafy and tannic betrays American origins. Light bodied, medium carbonation. A competent middle-range example, still focusing on the hops despite a few years of age. Thank you Sham! beerbuzzmontreal (2931), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 23, 2005 Pours a cloudy brown color with a ring of white lace. Aroma of caramel and alcohol. Flavor of caramel, hops and alcohol with a strong bitter finish. The body is light with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation. An unremarkable barley wine. MartinT (5075), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 21, 2005 The Lure: Citrusy, wooden hops proliferate atop teh cranberries and sour cherries. Grapefruit and brown sugar don’t exactly blend harmoniously, and the pricking alcohol does not help.
The Festivities: Pretty thin-bodied for the style, the grapefruity and resinous hops run amock like they own the place. Bitterness is of course plentiful, but there isn’t much malt to back it up. A capable sipper, but somewhat boring to my tastes.
Transcendence: Fiery eyes and a wicked grin aren’t as fun to watch when they’re in your face. Ungstrup (15430), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 24, 2004 A hazy amber beer with a small orange head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of caramel and hops. The flavor is dry malty and very hoppy. A nice barley wine because of the hops. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 17, 2004 Muddy colored beer with a thin off-white head. Bittersweet hop and caramel aroma with a tone of alcohol. Typically for an American barley wine the flavor has lots of bitter hops on a sweet malty base. Flowery notes and a warming tone of alcohol Really tasty, I’m a sucker for these hoppy barley wines!!
