BuckeyeBoy (1639), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 7, 2007 On tap at Sockeye brewing Boise, pours out a clear amber topped with a off white cream head. Nice ligth rye aroma and some sweetness. Pretty good. Much better than most of the rye brews I have had. pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 6, 2007 Tap at brewpub: Almost clear amber with an fairly good-looking off-white head. Floral grain malty aroma with matching sweet tastes of grain and mint. The flavor has a little tang to it like peppermint or chamomile tea. The feel is real smooth. I agree with the other raters that it is different than most rye beers, but it also makes it stand out a bit more. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Sep 16, 2007 Draft: Pours a clear amber color with a small beige head. Some of the stickiest lacing I’ve seen in a while. Nose is mild of herbal and floral tones, some hints of mint? Smooth taste features more florals, a little grassiness, malty, and well I guess that must be the cardamom. On a different path than other rye beers I’ve had, but good. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Sep 15, 2007 On tap at Bittercreek Alehouse in Boise. Light copper color with a thin white head. Vague malty aroma, bit of floral hops in there, too, but mostly a malt show. Slight bitter start yields to the maltiness. The finish has a moderate hop presence, especially for a rye brew. Palate was surprisingly thin for a rye-involved beer. Interesting subtleties, but not real exciting overall. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 18, 2007 Updated: Aug 22, 2007On Tap at the Brewpub. Clear medium redish brown. Nice creamy light tan head. The sligtly bitter woody Rye flavors work well.
Would not have guessed cardamom but for the brewer himself coming out and chatting about it. A bit spicy but just barely.
BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Aug 14, 2007 Draught: Pours a clear caramel color with a nice puffy head. The nose is spicy with light cinnamon and caramel, some earthy rye notes along with a bit of earthy hops. The flavor has a nice malty body with a clean doughy sweetness to compliment the spicy rye and cardamom notes. The finish is balanced, some light coriander and more caramel. Long spicy tail. The rye blends well and the cardamom adds a little interesting twist.
