Fairly clear with a bit of chill haze when it first pours. Smells like American hops, an orange-marmalade / grapefruit aroma to it. Smells sweet from the hops as well. There is a full amount of hop flavor that seeps through as this beer passes through my mouth. Citrus flavors, lightly malty sweet, just wonderful. A fine example of a pale ale, which surpasses many of its more popular brethren pale ales. Finishes with a good hop bitterness. As the beer warms up a bit it becomes quite clear. This beer and the hops definitely remind me of orange-marmalade, yummy. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA

Medium golden color, slightly hazy, with a creamy, settling head. Malty, sweet caramel and a bit of flowery perfume up front, followed by a blend of fruity, citric hop flavors. Light-medium bodied, palate is a little bubbly. Nice hoppy aftertaste. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 9, 2003 Solid, but a bit lighter straw yellow in color, an inch high head of white froth, lumpy top sits long, fading slowly leaving lace in small sheets. Makes up for the lighter color.
Smell is so yummy of citrus fruits - strong grapefruit, some peach, and light lemon, quite juicy and a slight piney fatness, good , no, make that great hop nose. Wiff in, ahhh....
Taste is quite excellent, smooth, but tight of quick malts then the hops enter with super smooth grapefruit, a bit of peach and a nice airy light finish of more grapefruity sourness and a pucker of drying. Quite a decent medium body close to full and lightly textured with some creamy features in the front and finish. One hell of a great pale ale, nearly beating out some IPA's I've had. Phoenix has a winner here in my book! Steib (579), Queen Creek, Arizona, USA

Just the right amount of hops, not too bitter. Aftertaste has hints of grapefuit and pine. Smooth in the finish not too agressive. A very drinkable beer. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA

Nice balance of sweet malt backbone with lots of hops on top. I drank a ton of these pool side at my friend's place in Scottsdale. It is a very accessable APA and I really enjoyed it. Great with food or by itself. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2003 Nothing like that first sip of a west coast american pale ale to just put you right at ease when you get home. The aroma is very pleasant with hops just attacking your nose...floral and some citrus/orange. The pour is decent with orange and amber and a tiny white head being apparent. Some definite carbonation, but not overwhelming. The flavor is full with malty back bone and a nice hop filled bitter dry ending. Some syrupy malt and orange in this beer...very rough drinking for a typical pale ale...but not necessarily a bad thing. Enjoyable...thanks for the beer mitch.
