Growler from brewery. Pours a dark black with a burnt chocolate brown head. Aroma is roasted barley, coffee, chocolate and malts. Flavor is very dry powdered cocoa, coffee, burnt barley with a dry bitter finish. Pretty tasty, but not at all what I expected.

Many, many thanks to Bill for sending me the growler! Rating #2600, #100 for this beer.

Poured deep brown with just about zero head.. left some nice legs on the glass, though. The aroma picked up semi-sweet, well-roasted chocolates and a pinch of darker fruit.. toasted black patent malts gave a sweet impression on the back. The flavor had warm, well-roasted dark chocolate and licorice at the core with light coffee and earthy bitterness surrounding.. felt like there was some caramel supporting it as well.. lightly bitter finish with a sweet, warm final impression. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. slick, coating feel with an enjoyable finish.

tap... very dark brown near black pour with a tight creamy cappuccino colored head. the fluffiness lasts until the last drop and paints the inside of the glass. sweet chocolate aroma with lots of ashiness and dark roasty grains. the palate has medium sweetness, lots of roast near ashy malt and chocolate. dry bittered finish. long lingering aftertaste of chocolate and malt powder. super creamy texture and smooth mouth feel. bitterness helps keep it from being too rich. it’s tasty but awfully one dimensional.

Tried at the AZ Strong Beer Festival...nice dark chocolate pour with a hint of Starbucks potency, this is definitely a stout above the rest in the Phoenix area. Luckily, we have access to beers outside our immediate demographic (Speedway Stout, Stone Russian Imperial Stout, Rogue Imperial Stout). This isn’t in the same galaxy as those beers and it’s silly to state they are in the same category.

PP Strong Ale Fest 07. Pour black with a thin tan head. Nose is chocolatey and full of coffee notes. Taste is sweet and light, with a lot of chocolate, overall pretty nice.

On tap @ the Tucson Beer Festival. This was my first beer of the evening. Pours a dark brown color with a thick tan head. Aroma is your typical, roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is much of the same with some light chocolate and dark esters mixed in there. Had a strong bitter finish. Medium to full body. A good beer.

Vintage 2004. Poured black with a small brown head. Aroma of chocolate and aged roasted malt. Some soy notes. The flavor was tart and roasty with hints of coffee. Thick full cteamy body.
