| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 24, 2004 Pitch black coloured body with a thin brown head. Aroma of strong chocolate, prunes and a bit of coffee. Light to Medium-bodied; Sour grapey flavour with chocolate and roasted malt highlights. Aftertaste with roasted malt and some nice sweetness. Overall, an interesting take on an Imperial Stout. Definately great to try! I got this twelve ounce bottle in a trade (secret santa) from BunkyPop and shared it with good friend JonR888710 on 11-April-2004. unclebleen (620), California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 22, 2004 Pours black as night and milky rich with just a wisper of tan lacing atop. Aroma is very malty with some light cherry notes. Very little alcohol aroma at 9.6%. Flavor is very good. Smooth like milk and coffee and burnt chocolate. Little alcohol noticed. A very good imperial stout. MrDick (281), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2004 This bad dog pours a jet black - like the motor oil that's been in your car for 5 years. Hold it up to a light and it's Maximilian, driving the U.S.S. Cygnus into the black hole where nothing escapes. Very smooth flavor for an imperial stout. A lot of roasted nuggets, some teeth-sucking coffee, a pinch of chocolate p-poppin and some smooth cherry roasting over an open fire. jonwell (104), Huntington Beach, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 3, 2004 Pours as dark as any beer I've seen... No head, heck I even shook the thing and all I got was a few dark brown bubbles. Like motor oil. Rad. Not much of an aroma, but my nose is plugged, so I had my roomate rate the aroma. "Very little coffee aroma, considering the taste. Mostly chocolate and roasted malt." Word. There is a definate taste of coffee, strong taste of roasted malt, little hint of chocolate, and a bit of a hop kick at the end. Finishes pretty dry really, and the high alcohol content provides some warming but not much in the way of taste. A very decent imperial stout, for sure. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2004 Cappucino-type aroma. Lighter than regular coffee but nowhere as extreme as espresso. Lightly fudgy as well. Fruity, lightly roasted body, no astringent coffee presence. Some butterscotch and caramel. Woody mocha finish. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 27, 2004 I sampled this one at the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. It pours a not so menacing black with slight browns in the light. It was a headstrong creature with an orangey tanned head that lasted fairly long. The aroma was HEAVY into chocolates as was to be expected, but was surprisingly heavy on the cherry pie smell. WHOA...that is one seriously strong coffee aftertaste..starbucks you have met your match! The beer starts off very light in the front then BAM...it completely changes course and pulls a 180 and scrapes your tongue along the ground during the process. Heavy chocolates, some definitely cherry pie activity here..just like momma used to make. Almost like sipping on an alcoholic cherry or moose pie...very hard to describe...but im sure someone will laugh their ass off reading this.
