Labeled bottled on July ’04. Poured a dark, dark brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, dark fruits, and a little smoky. Tastes of the same with an underlying sourness starting to come on. I think we saved this from Mike’s cellar before it completely turned south. I’d like to try a fresh sample (send me one if you can get it!). CaptainCougar (5521), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2003 2003: Rich oily black with a thin tan head. Rich roatsed malt aroma with some peat and dark fruits. Body is smooth and rich with some dry caramel and choclate maltiness. Hints of sourness toward the finish. Dry roasted moderately bitter finish. Could be a little more extreme, but still a very nice imperial stout. hopscotch (5521), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Extremely Black ale with a creamy, well-tanned head. Poor retention, but good lacing. Smoke, espresso, dark chocolate and vanilla in the nose.
Lots of bitter hops to go along with the burnt malt, espresso and bittersweet chocolate flavors.
Full-bodied with a fatty, chewy mouthfeel and lively carbonation.
Lengthy, burnt, bitter finish. Dry too! Wow! World class brew!

Smells of chocolate, yogurt, toffee, sweet cognac. Taste is woody with some nice mellowing chocolate and peppery tinges. Very surprising and very good. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

Very smoky nose of licorice, burnt malts, sweet oily and smoke, very nice aroma. Extremely thick, oily sweet plums, tobacco and sweet malts. Finish is full of burnt malts and sweet dark chocolate. Cloying, sticky and addictive.
