Nutty aroma (salty peanuts, almonds) with hints of caramel. The malts (caramel, toffee, butter toffee and biscuits) are very sweet but the hops are present enough to balance everything. Extremely salty. The body is a bit light and again, the texture is lacking. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 30, 2004 draught. poured in a brandy snifter, mahogany in colour with a small white head. aroma of sweet malt, caramel, raisins, and alcohol. wow, this stuff is silky smooth! flavour is sweet, malty, with a touch of hops. finish is warm and alcoholic with a gentle bitterness. very refreshing. I walked about 7km roundtrip to try this and it was well worth it! It’s unfortunate that they didn’t have any available in bottles because I would have liked to age a few back in Toronto. Too bad Sonora is going away, this and Inebriator IMHO are two of the better AZ beers. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Bright, beautiful , crimson color, firm, solid, cream-colored head.
Aroma: sweet, fruity, hoppy, vibrant, airy, delicious, bright,...nice...
Taste: sweet, bright, tasty, a magnificent meeting of malt and hops, happy and fruity, not a world-class barleywine, but a decent addition to the set. Just what I need in the throes of a Minnesota winter, very enjoyable, though the ABV is deceptive, doesn’t stick out in the palate, then slowly kicks in!

The aroma is sweet, malty and caramelly with a nice candy note, great fruity notes and a touch of citrusy hops. The flavor is sweet and malty wtih a nice candied fruit note, slight bitter notes and a touch of sourness. Full bodied, smooth and slightly warming. MartinT (5073), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 18, 2004 Baccate malts lift the grassy hops to meet the tastebuds and remain quietly…The nice level of carbonation, not too still, not too bubbly, pushes forth pacific flavors such as citrus fruit pulp and creates a gorgeous, compact head that laces like an impressionist painter and stays for the whole tasting…More malty than hoppy, this unpretentious barley wine hides its alcohol level pretty well and makes for a very drinkable glass for its size…
