ChainGangGuy (1511), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 15, 2008 Appearance: Pours a lightly hazy, garnet-hued body with a tiny, thin, white head.
Smell: Candyish caramel aroma with a solid raisiny fruitiness and a hint of toasted bread and dried citrus peel.
Taste: Sweet candied maltiness with a subtle taste of caramel squares. Hint of grains. Golden raisins and a tiny splash of sweet vermouth. Medium-high bitterness. Tablespoon of whipping cream. Citrus and spice on the bittersweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: I could use a bump to the fullness of the body, but otherwise it’s a decent Arizonan barleywine.
BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 10, 2008 Shared this with a friend awhile back. I am glad I did, because I do not think I could have made it through it all by myself. First thing I notice is the low amount of carbonation, but has some ripe fruitiness and a high level of malty sweetness, and a bit of vanilla that sticks around leading into a sticky mouthfeel. Could be a little more hoppy to add some much needed bitterness in the finish. uhre (231), Denmark Aug 2, 2008 A lot of caramel in the aroma, but also with dark fruit. The beer is copper brown. Flavor of caramel, but it has a weird finish perhaps a bit of acidly. KimJohansen (3026), Copenhagen V, Denmark Jul 31, 2008 Hazy deep amber with tiny off white head. Sweet aroma with toasted malt, ripe fruits, caramel and hoppy notes. Sweet fruity flavor with hoppy, caramel and fruity notes. Ends bitter. Papsoe (9980), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 31, 2008 (Bottle 100 cl) Courtesy of FlacoAlto. Pours a very cloudy orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Vinous port aroma with a light tartness. Quite full-bodied with sweet caramel and overripe fruit. Low carbonation though and a very subdued bitterness. 260708 Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 28, 2008 Bottled - tasted blind An amber veer with a thin lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with primary notes of caramel, but also an acidic edge. The flavor old with notes of over ripe fruit and oxidation, and the mouthfeel is sticky.
