Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 11, 2003 I do believe this is the first "Double/Imperial" amber ale I've ever tasted, and I certainly hope it won't be my last.
The pour a transpicuous deep golden amber color, the head portly in size, spumescent in texture and the color a winsome light tan, as it evanesces, the lace forms a glutinous sheet to meld with the glass. The aroma of hops, citrus crisp and malt sweet, a real treat for the old schnozzle. Start is richly malt, ambrosial, top is middling in feel to the palate. Finish is all about hops, persistent in there spiciness with a moderate acidity, dry lingering hop-laden aftertaste, a real "Hop Heads" delight, and with that whopping 8.2 percent ABV, a bit of a "Belly Warmer. Unfortunately for the present available only on tap at the "Sonora Brew House and Papago Brewery".
