Commercial Description:
Known as a pale or "blonde" bock, and of German origin, this stye is generally reserved for spring consumption. It’s very malty in flavor an aroma, has practically no bitterness. But a small amount of the hop aromas may come through. Full bodied and hearty, this style was inteded to ward off those nipping remnants of winter as the early Germanic gatherers returned to the field to replenish their stores of food. The phrase "a porkshop in every glass" could very well have originated with this bock style. It was filling and the high alcohol content made the hardships of the hunt a lot more tolerable.

From Skyview’s growler. Caramel aroma. Sweet but a lot of bitter hops for the style, and interesting idea that has worked fairly well. The high abv is well hidden. One of South Shore’s better creations.

Third stop during May ’07 brewpub tour, brought us to the South Shore Brewery in Ashland, WI. Pours a semi-cloudy burnt coppery amber color brew with an average off-white head that dissolves very slowly to a fine film. Lacing is average. This maibock has aroma of sweet buttery toast, bananas, a touch of apriots, and sweet sugar. Taste is smooth, creamy, medium body and more sweetness on the tongue. Finish is sweet and no bitterness.
