Really lacks any flavor at all for a nut brown. Wont be drinking this again. Ill stick to S.S Coffee Mint! ChainGangGuy (2568), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-amber body with a rather fizzy-looking head.
Smell: What we have here is an odd, vaguely off-smelling caramel aroma. Good gracious, me.
Taste: More of that scant maltiness from the aroma with a weak, thin sweetness. Finishes with some questionable tartness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation.
Drinkability: Totally lacks any nutty characters, or really any sort of character from the malt, hops, etc. mistersinalin (378), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA

sweet caramel and vanilla aroma with a lot of licorice like a root beer,
sweet caramel malt flavor, tart ginger balances the sweetness, earthy bitterness,

| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Aug 30, 2007 Pours more of an amber with a thin diminishing head. Aroma is tart and lemony with wierd off caramel sweetness- may be infected. Flavor is lgither than expected, ligth nuts and sweetness but finishes slick, with some citrusy tartness- infected most likely. Bleh. gws57 (1137), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 5, 2007 Found this bottled at the Cashwise in Duluth, Minnesota. Cloudy, oily medium brown pour with a filmy head, sweet maltiness almost reminds me of barbeque sauce, watery maltiness, just not much happening here. islay (476), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 18, 2007 Weak, grainy aroma features a lemony sharpness and a chocolate scent. The aroma is not bad, but there’s not much to it. Pours a largely opaque, sparkling medium brown with an amber hue and a moderate amount of off-white head. Appetizing appearance. Produces some lacing. Dull taste, vaguely reminiscent of nuttiness. Lightly roasted malt flavor. On the dry, bitter side (as opposed to the sweet side) by the standards of the style, making the "no bitterness" commercial description inapt. Unsweetened chocolate and hazelnut flavors. There’s a slight, rhubarb-like sourness/tartness that unfortunately afflicts too many brown ales and porters. Dry, roasted almond aftertaste. Medium body. Smooth, oily, and frothy in the palate. South Shore Nut Brown Ale is a decent brown ale and a somewhat interesting brew. I’m just not a big fan of the style, as most examples are boring, bland, and not challenging. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. thomasacross (129), Edina, Minnesota, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Bottle. Pours like a typical brown ale. But I wasn’t crazy about the flavor -- booze comes right at you and never lets up. No real interesting flavors here, just a mild, boozy bitterness with some rounded malt characteristics. I found this very one dimensional.
