Commercial Description:
Our only named beer to date. Its' honorary status is in tribute to its' designer, Allen Rhoades, a fellow brewer who captured a blue ribbon at the Western Washington State Fair when it was entered as a homebrew. It's everything a stout should be. Rich and hearty, not thick and overpowering, comes complete with a creamy head. Chocolate and crystal malts along with roasted barley combine to create the wonderful flavor. Compliments deserts well: try one in place of a cup of coffee.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark black with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee and very light cardboard. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, caramel with a light coffee finish. Smooth body.

Very roasty hickory and coffee aroma. Opaque black body with low cover of tan head that recedes to ring. Very roasty and somewhat sulfurous flavour. Medium body is quite dry with sharp, pointy carbonation. Bottle sampled at DenverLogan’s GABF 2005 wrap-up.

Pours brown with a tan head. Smells malty and sweet with some nutty elements. Taste is tangy with some cherry and chocolate notes.

slighty sweet coffe aroma. dark dark brown color, slight tan head. mouth-filling, malty with a too sweet finish. sweetness fills the nose, long after the beer is gone. pleasant, but the sweet finish is a bit too much for me.

Thanks to CaptainCougar for this beer.

Poured dark with a creamy light brown head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee, pretty pleasant. Taste starts with coffee but dominated by an acidic cherry flavor. OK body but somewhat thin for a stout. The acidity in this put me off; don’t know if its intended or if the bottle was past its prime.

Bottled. Pours very dark without much head. Roasted coffee and chocolate dominate the flavor. It lacks a bit in the body department but it is a very tasty stout.

Chocolate/coffee/toffee/and burnt sugar flavors all present. I found the mouthfeel a little too thin for style, but a decent attempt at a stout. OK!

I liked the taste of this solid brown brew, a roasted malt with a good helping of chocolate, some dark coffee, and a touch of nutty bitterness in the finish. It looked just fine, too. But I swear, there was NO AROMA AT ALL. None of the other folk present at the The LoSBD meeting could detect one either. Weird.
