Commercial Description:
Our only named beer to date. Its' honorary status is in tribute to its' designer, Allen Rhoades, a fellow brewer who captured a blue ribbon at the Western Washington State Fair when it was entered as a homebrew. It's everything a stout should be. Rich and hearty, not thick and overpowering, comes complete with a creamy head. Chocolate and crystal malts along with roasted barley combine to create the wonderful flavor. Compliments deserts well: try one in place of a cup of coffee.

Brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark and roasted malts and some smoke. Over carbonated mismatch that’s a bit chewy. The smoke gets into the flavor a bit and mixes it up with roasted malts and some usual stout fare. I can’t recall exactly what the Rhoades scholar is off the top of my head, but I’m thinking it has nothing to do with brewing…

Thanks to Fantomas23 for the bottle!
Chestnut with large, foamy tan head. Nose is huge sweet sugar, prune, apple, wood, a little lactic. Odd nose, almost sour-like refreshing in the sugar-fruit combination. Roast shows up in the flavor, along with sugar and more fruit, and yet again a lactic sour quality. Quite odd. Moderate body but too carbonated and rather sticky. Odd stout, probably approaching the Dubbel category with some odd sour elements present.

From the bottle, courtesy of Summer Secret Santa 08, pours black with a thick but quickly dissipating brown foamy head. Smell is sweet, with aromas of coffee and sweet malt, a hint of alcohol and some chocolate. Taste is a bit sweet, but also a bit harsh. Flavors of sweet malt and cappuchino dominate, but there’s also some almost fruity notes that appear as the beer warms. The harshness of aftertaste also disappears when it’s no longer cold cold. A bit thin, but this is a solid beer.

pours very dark with lots of head. it will probably take a couple of pours to fill the glass because of all the head. taste is of coffee and is sweeter than exptected. finish is quite smooth. not a bad beer.
