Commercial Description:
Our only named beer to date. Its' honorary status is in tribute to its' designer, Allen Rhoades, a fellow brewer who captured a blue ribbon at the Western Washington State Fair when it was entered as a homebrew. It's everything a stout should be. Rich and hearty, not thick and overpowering, comes complete with a creamy head. Chocolate and crystal malts along with roasted barley combine to create the wonderful flavor. Compliments deserts well: try one in place of a cup of coffee.

(Bottle) Pours black with a relatively large and lasting beige head. Roasted malts are very strong, almost to the point it tastes a little burnt. Chocolate notes as well. A pretty good stout, but could be a little more balanced and a little less carbonated.

On tap at Deepwater. Pours dark blackish brown with medium light tan head. Roasted caramel malt aroma with a flavor to match. Over-carbonated.

12 oz bottle, via NachlamSie. Pours a pitch black colored body under a large fizzy and foamy light brown head that has good retention. Aroma is quite roasty with a good dose of coffee, burnt malt, cocoa, chalk, and a bit of caramel. Flavor is roasty and fruity up front with a little bit of coffee. Finishes slightly sour with some ashy burnt malt, caramel, and cocoa. The mouthfeel is extremely fizzy to the point where it actually foams up as soon as it hits the tongue. This seems to be in the very early stages of an infection that is wreaking havoc on the carbonation level. Overall, if the carbonation of this had been a little more pleasing then it would have fared much better overall. It would be worth a try I think.

Bottle: Courtesy of RagallachMC via trade. Aroma has lots of cocoa powder along with light vanilla, roasted malt, fruit, and the slightest touch of coffee. Pours a dark brown with no transparency and a large tan head with very good retention. Starts with lots of dark chocolate and hint of vanilla. Moderately strong fruity backbone. Finishes with a light fruity sourness, slight coffee, and burnt malt. There’s also a touch of acidity. Mouthfeel is a tad fizzy and thin.

Bottle. Pours quite black with a bit of reds noticed in the light. The tan head sits nicely for quite some time. Prominent coffee in the aroma with ample nuttiness and faint dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium-thick with low carbonation with a wall of mocha dominating the tastebuds. It finishes fairly sweet like malted milk ball chocolates and faint, faint cola. Some bitter hoppy notes poke their head out from time to time but definitely don’t steal the spot light.Very well rounded and balanced stout.

Draught at the ABR 2006. Available in bottles at Chicones, Hudson , WI. thick and better than average oatmeal stout, even though I don’t know if there is actually any oatmeal in it. Roasted barley, and some nuts. Black with an impressive head. Simple but the substantial body and full flavor make this a winner.

Not great, that’s what first comes to mind. It is veryh astringent, with an alcohol filled aroma. Some sweet, butter undertones in the aroma as well. Big-bubbles, high carbonation - too much. This is barrel aged, but it is not evident. Not very smooth at all. It looks like cola.

Draught sample at the brewpub, late July 2006. Black but not opaque with faint light showing through at the edges and a dark ring of lasting head....quite sweet chocolaty, caky nose with perhaps a hint of cherry liqueur, coffee bitterness arrives late and cola notes also impinge on the senses, quite complex and beautiful....milky, licorice-inflected dark chocolate body, faint hints of cherry and light-roast coffee, touches of alcohol, really tasty stuff but the body is on the thin side and the parts just don’t quite add up to brilliance. Still the best sample I had by far at this brewpub.
