Thanks Crizay. This beer poured a murky brown witth a tiny off white head. Aroma is of sweet fruits and a twangy note I was told may be the yeast...not sure. Taste of caramel/ roasted malt with a hint of spice. Decent body and creamy mouthfeel.

Pours a slightly clouded ruby garnet color with a minimal tan head. Nose is woody with a very strong sugary tone to it. Flavor is syrupy sweet with a strong sweet tone to it. Slight metallic edge that has a bit of wood on it. Feel is thick with bubbles on your tongue. Also thick with a syrup like texture to it. Drinkable, sure. It is okay as far as an old ale goes. I had this not too long ago at a bar and thought it was nicer than my opinion of it at the moment. Perhaps this bottle has not been resting in the right storage…or maybe my taste buds were skewed when I was at that bar. Either way, another good offering from Southampton.

bottle sampled from Capones. Pours garnet with a decent off-white head. Aroma of fruit, spices, caramel, chocolate, and sweetness. The flavor is caramel, chocolate, spices, fruit, and finishes with a sweet alcohol warming sensation. Good brew

Rich ruby in colour, lingering large and creamy beige coloured head, great lacing. The aroma is of rich malts, toffee, earthy, some wood, brown sugar and molasses, some dark fruits. The flavour starts out sweet with lots of brown sugar and molasses, light alcohol warmth, plums. Chewy sweet mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long, sweet, some lingering alcohol warmth. Southampton doesn’t seem to ever let me down and this one is no exception. Moderate sweetness through and a great alcohol warmth. This one should age well.

Plums, raisins, marzipan, dates, figs and brown sugar in the rich, sweet aroma. Clear brown body is topped by a lasting stand of fine bubbled tan head that rings the sides of the glass. Flavour is full and fruity as suggested by the aroma with plenty of malt sweetness and just a touch of bitterness to keep it from becoming cloying. Alcohol is only notable as a slight warming. Medium full body with strong soft bubbled effervescence that makes this seem a lot lighter than it is. A very nice beer befitting the anniversary of a great brewpub. Wonder how this will fare over time? Wish I had a bottle to lay down. Bottle sampled with Altair, beerbuzzmontreal, Cathschlag, Glouglouburp, Goldorak, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Yowie. Resampled in Jun-08 with similar comments - overall score stayed the same but i knocked off a point on appearance and added a point to flavour (8-4-9-4-17 is equal to 4.2).

Pours a hazy light brown color with a light brown head. Aroma is malty, brown sugar, and some fruit. Flavor is malty, fruity apple, with a bitter finish.

Brownish colour, cogniac, with significant yeast, like a good Belgium. Attractive aroma, more malty that yeasty or alcoholic. Very tasty and drinkable, simply lovely after fish and with lunch. A very good old ale that I will want to try after ageing a few years. Masterful.
