Pours out a nice deep amber color with a big beige head. Aroma was sweet and full of fruit. Flavor was fantastic. NIce brown sugar notes with a nice balance of spice. This was a superb brew that I would love to have again. GRM (1283), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2007 This stuff pours out a reddish brown with a thick tan head to it. Smell is brown sugar, malts, dark fruits, and molasses. Taste is again wonderful brown sugar and dates with a slight spicyness noticed perhaps more molasses and a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Good stuff for my first old ale experience. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 29, 2007 Bottle from Garrett. Thanks! Pours out a dark red color with an off white head which disappears rather quickly. Smell is fruity and sweet, malty, some plums? perhaps? Dark fruits and not much of a hop aroma. Taste is smooth and rich, pairs very well with dead bovine which we indulged upon while drinking this beer. Certainly a very interesting beer, one that I happened to like quite a bit. Thanks! radagast83 (1317), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 25, 2007 750 ml bottle. Dark amber color, with thick fluffy head that diminishes slowly. Aroma is very malty with a strong taste of sweetness. Flavor is very malty, with a lot of roastyness in there. JFURYCAT (792), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Bottle at River Street Ale House, Pittston, PA from our new friends from the other site. Very sweet with a kick ass malt quotient, raisins and dates, some woodiness and molasses to boot. The mouth feel has a relatively thick malty texture which I associate with Old Ales, one of my favorite styles. There is a lot to explore with this one. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2007 Sampled from 750 ml bottle in Montreal on Glouglouburp’s roof at the tiggmtl-returns/MartinT leaves for Japan party, June 17 2007. Nearing the end of the tasting, but even so this beauty was able to capture my attention....it’s dark and molasses-maple like to the eye, with a smallish creamy lasting head....the nose is full of caramel, earthy/woody muted dry hops, and hints of French vanilla and mint.....very, very sweet on the tongue, but just enough of that dry earthy bitterness makes it through to keep it joyously balance, drinkable, and surprisingly light in mouthfeel....guess Southampton hasn’t lost it yet.
