A big off white head tops this clear, dark amber brew.
Big malt aroma joined closely with some
big hops.
The flavor starts sweet, then some alcohol joins in, all the while fully supported by a big hop bitterness.
This is good, but lacks the complexity I like to find in Old Ales and Barleywines. scania (184), Malmö, Sweden

Sweet malty nose, caramel and cookie. Lots of chewy malt, but a rather one dimensional flavor. Not a bad beer, but needs more depth. cbkschubert (2008), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2007 750 ml bottle shared with Bockyhorsey via my SS - Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a big light tan head that lasted awhile. Aroma is caramel malt and light esters. Flavor is much of the same. Medium body. Nothing overly complex but good. Thanks Santa (Andy). JPDIPSO (4929), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 15, 2007 Dark copper color with hints of garnet on the edges Nearly looks like an old burgundy. Small dark tan head. Nice looking brew. Scents of alcohol hit the nose along with bits of caramel and dark berries. Quite thin in in feel. Wow, this is hot for "only" 8.7. I need my old ales to be a bit thicker with some complexity. I don’t think this will hit those ideas anytime soon. Thanks Blake for sharing. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 15, 2007 Bottle that Beer_Hawk brought to the Nashville Tasting. Pours dark hazy amber witha complex pillowy beige head. Yeasty and sour apple aroma, almost Belgianesque. English malt profile, with flavors of brown sugar and maple with lemon and yeasty middle. Subtle bitterness on the finish, with fine carbonation on the togue and a touch of alcohol. I got more belgian influence than american. Still enjoyable. Thanks for sharing Steve.
