Almost a nip of phenolic Belgian inflection. Ruby-cored burnished bronze, with orange fringe and light foamy banana-tinged head. Soapy and explosive. Flavor begins with a lot of very similiar to aroma, with lots of that spritzy salty sour malt. Edges of lemon peel and stewed juice. An incredibly drinkable palate for an olde ale. Bright and crips, with dry spicy musk and xeric plant edge. Again, belgianesque yeast character shining through. A beer set around the yeast character and it’s toasted fennel seed feelings. Not really a lot of malt depth, but what’s there lends itself to good attenuation. Then, a bold transition into a heavy handed Goldings. I love Goldings, but this may be a touch too much. The minty lemon-basil smack that I long for, it’s almost too acerbic and scorching in the middle. But there is a lot of nice hop flavor and smack. This beer is unique. It’s really a belgian style olde ale, with a heavy hop dose and lots of interesting unique character. It strays too far stylistically for me. But it is quite drinkable and tasty. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2006 From a 750mL Bottle. Semi-transparent, ruddy copper colored pour with a tall layer of bubbly beige head. Great head reformation that quickly restructures with a gentle swirl of the snifter glass. Aromas of mild fig, caramel, and a whiff of shaved nutmeg. A touch of vanilla, pralined pecans, and some celeryish british hops also add some complexity. Medium bodied, heavily carbonated mouthfeel. The flavor is distinctly less fruity than the nose. Heavy malt presence with some belgian like characters. Some lightly toasted pumpernickel bread starts out the flavors before darkening to a bit of an ashy spice character. The Goldings hop presence is quite noticeable and enjoyable, making it the only character to separate its English roots from its Belgian style similarities - very well attenuated with a spicy dark malt character. Final smack of toasted french herbs and allspice. Very unique, delicious treat. Thanks, Santa! mephisto (1144), Taiwan

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Bottled at the YeHA! thanks to 1FastSTi (even though it showed up b/c he didn’t want to drink another). Poured a translucent coppery-caramel with a towering off-white head. Nose was of dry detergent, toffee sweetness, and odd sliced apple notes.. seemed off. Flavor was of sweet toffee and grainy alcohol.. leaving a sticky-sweet finish with only a few interesting darker fruity notes at the finish. Grainy and rather sharp on the palate.. didn’t flow well. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Translucent and scarlet brass in color with beady tan cloisters flocking together for the head. Amaretto grahams, brandied prunes, bing cherry figs and cocoa over blanched and caramelized golden raisins impart unique aromatic indices. Effervescence is way too accentuated. Maple bark and brandy over walnut shells give sweet earthen patterns. Over carbonation is met with earthy, soot - scattered over broiled pistachios. TJ Maxx butterscotches emerge from the back of the clearance rack in into the mouth after a three year stint. Antagonizing cottony dryness hangs onto the tonsils. Earthy bitterness lingers with bleached semi-sweet chocolate flavors, with an unmistakable broiled butterscotch flavor for the finish. Thanks for sharing, Blake!
