jeffin7 (609), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA Sep 15, 2006 Pours cloudy brown with a huge tan head that slowly fades. Aroma is of mulling spices, brown sugar, baked apples, caramel malt. Flavor is of biscuity and caramel malts, mulling spices (much less pronounced then the aroma), mild baked apples. Very nice malty mix balanced with just enough spiciness. Medium body, very slighly watery on the finish. This is what I think of when I think of a winter warmer.
Ober (529), Best, Netherlands Oct 29, 2008 Bottle@LCRBM 2008. A hazy red/brown colored beer with a beige head. The aroma of dark fruits, with dark malts and hoppy. The taste of dark fruits like cherries with caramel, malty with some spices. The aftertaste is enjoyable bitter. bierkoning (5077), La Tropica, Netherlands Oct 27, 2008 Bottle @ LCRBM 2008. Dark brown color.Grapes and vanilla in the aroma. Vinous flavor with grapes, roast, vanilla and pineapple. Very nice beer, but somehow I expected more of it. JorisPPattyn (4642), Antwerpen, Belgium Oct 26, 2008 Small beige rim left; foxy-red beer with a slight haze. Alcohol, nuts, brandy, Christmas cake nose. Some fusels and dried banana chips. Sweet, dried fruits, but with an unexpected short bitterish peak, neither hoppy, neither roasted. Retronasal greenery/cabbage flavour. Slightly fiery MF, medium bodied, alcoholwarming. Nowhere bad, but one that didn’t grace as well as might have been expected. jbrus (4306), Delft, Netherlands Oct 26, 2008 Bottle@LCRBM08. Raisin and cookie aroma. Brown color, beige head, good lace. Raisin, sweet, bitter, light herbal, toffee. Sticky and full. Nice balance, maybe a bit too sweet, but nice. sebletitje (579), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 22, 2008 Courtesy of idatetheformula.
06 bottle.
Pours hazy brown, beige head.
Aroma is sugary, dark fruits and yeasty.
Taste, bottle was served at close to room temp. and wow if the alcohol and nice sugar flavors and fruits kicked in. Plenty of dark fruits (prune/cherry), nice candi sugar and malts.
A trully amazing old ale.
