Pours crystal-clear yellow-gold with a healthy, creamy white head. Not a whole lot of visible effervescence.
Nose is nice and yeasty, bit of banana and some tropical fruit.
Grainy, cereal-like malt note up front, soft. A nice, grassy hop presence lends a crisp dryness - beautifully balanced and drinkable. Some tangy yeast comes out as well. Finish is lightly bitter, yeasty. Very nice.
Mouthfeel is light bodied, crisp, course-bubbled carbonation. Beerlando (2340), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Pours a cloudy, medium yellowish-gold color with a small, swirly, off-white head. A soapy wash leaves virtually no lacing behind. The nose is just perfectly clean, notes of honey glazed cereal grains, fresh wheat, green plantains, and crisp floral hops working beautifully together. Flavors show more of the same, bready yeast and fresh cereal grains sweetened with a drop of honey, with subtle banana/plantain overtones and mild spice. The grains seem to lend a bit of heft to the body, as it drinks considerably more substantially than a 4.5% ABV brew normally would. Delicious stuff. I could easily drink this all day long, and now I see why the monks do. hopdog (5604), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Thanks to dickinsonbeer. Pours a hazy yellow with a small bubbly white head. Aroma of a nice herbal spicy mix, citrus, bready and very floral. Flavor of doughy malt, floral, mixed citrus, black pepper, tons of Belgian yeast esters, yet very drinkable. Well done and enjoyable, nice and dry too. WeeHeavySD (3000), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Bottle... Gene Simmons’ Rock and Roll Over Throwdown... Murky, pear-colored ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Decent retention. Breadsy, citric nose also provides subtle pear and a suggestion of clove. Light-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Almost perfectly balanced, but tilts just a tad toward the sweet side. Citrus and fuzzy fruit. Finishes lightly acidic and a touch spicy. Thanks to TheCheeseMan for saving the dregs of this bottle for me (late, as always). PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 11, 2009 Bottle, the new batch. Aroma of delicate, bready yeast, subtle citrus complexities, stone-ground bread, so very elegant. Flavor filled with more subtle, dry fruits and a sweeter, lightly yogurty yeastiness, with more biscuit-like malt. Some ticklingly tart fruitiness closes things out. Eminently drinkable, again, elegant is the word that keeps jumping to mind. Great to see a brewery clearly putting a great deal of effort into brewing a 4.5% gem.
