There is also some fresh almonds and gum. The taste is pink bubblegum, with some caramel. There is also some weird mossiness that is like dank cellar. A little strange and slightly metallic for me. kempicus (350), Wellington, New Zealand

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2008 Updated: Apr 8, 2009Normal looking brown dark pour with only a little foam. Full aroma of chocolatey, honey malt, and well hopped too. Fine flavor of chocolate and honey bread malts followed by dry, tingly hops. This is like a well hopped brown ale, or a cross between a brown ale and a pale ale. A little more dry than sweet. I orginally rated this when it was called Secret Ale, and revised it upward when it was rereleased as the altbier. Southampton might have improved it some. This is a fine brew and a good style that isn’t available everywhere. taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 12, 2008 from bottle. Pours copper with small off-white head. Minimal aroma of German malt/hops. Strange metallic flavor and thin finish. Acceptable session beer. Nothing special. Palidor19 (1780), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 11, 2008 there is not much to enjoy this, its got some characters but the after flavor of unpleasant tartness and weak malts, make this barley drinkable.. nick76 (2665), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 11, 2008 Updated: Dec 12, 2008Bottle labeled Altbier. The aroma is really quite bad. Its metallic, dusty, malty, and hoppy. The appearance is amber with a large head. The flavor is much better than the aroma with an emphasis on toasted malt, grain husks, and butterscotch. The palate is average for the style. Overall it has good and bad but the taste is good. kpresley77 (134), Jackson, Georgia, USA
