Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

there is not much to enjoy this, its got some characters but the after flavor of unpleasant tartness and weak malts, make this barley drinkable..

Bottle labeled Altbier. The aroma is really quite bad. Its metallic, dusty, malty, and hoppy. The appearance is amber with a large head. The flavor is much better than the aroma with an emphasis on toasted malt, grain husks, and butterscotch. The palate is average for the style. Overall it has good and bad but the taste is good.

Bottle pours clear amber with thin white head. Aroma is caramel with a little hops. The first taste is sweet malt, then a slight bitterness with a nice well balanced clean finish.

Pours orange amber with rimming, eggshell head. Caramel nose with mild earthy hop notes. Full mouth feel with caramel and toffee. Solid bitter, moderate, but not overly done. Caramel seems just out of reach. Watery and lacking in flavor. Tastes like a slightly overhopped Octoberfest. Just OK.

12 oz. Pour amber color with minimal head. Toasted malt flavor with some mild bitterness. Overall, not bad, but not something special either.

On tap @ Muggs in brooklyn. Pours deep amber color. Malty aroma with some light bitterness lingering. Taste is a little spicy, caramel malt driven. Some light bitterness in the finish. Decent beer

Pours a clear, dark amber/ caramel brown color with a thin tan head that quickly dissolves into a very minimal lace. Malty aroma of roasted nuts and subtle hops. Nicely balanced and not as watered down as most alt beers with a nice malty backbone countering the slight hop flavor and a slight roasted nut flavor.

(10/25/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Southampton. Says 5.2% on the board. Clear copper color. Aroma of malt, toasted notes and a bit of hops. Sweetish malty flavor with a bit of toastiness, caramel, and dry hoppy finish with some herbal notes. Medium-bodied.
