Smooth and balanced with a little bitter bite at the very end on the palate. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2008 Pours a clear, reddish brown with a tall, foamy tan head. Aroma is kind of week but smells of slightly sour fruit, caramel malts and plants. Initial taste is a light caramel malty sweetness. and the finish has a little hop flavor but rather then being bitter, it just leaves an herbal aftertaste. Kind of week flavored and bodied overall, but what’s there isn’t bad. Very easy to drink. blutt59 (2119), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 10, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear deeper orangey-brown with a short-lived cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet toasted caramel and floral notes with a little semi-sweet chocolate behind. The flavor found sweeter chocolate, caramel, and tea along with other medium-dark sugars.. odd blend that was just OK.. sweet finish with light leafy bitterness. Medium-bodied with OK balance on the palate.. sticky back-end.. meh. LilBeerDoctor (1505), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2008 Bottle, now labeled as the SPH Altbier (instead of Secret Ale). Pours an amber/brown with a thick, light tan head. Aroma of flowery hops, light sweet malt. Flavor of burnt, roasted malt, prunes, buttery popcorn, bread/wheat. Decent palate. Surprisingly lager-like. A nice refreshing beer although the flavors didn’t particularly appeal to me. blipp (1679), Newark, New Jersey, USA
