Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

Pours a very nice ruddy bronze w/ half-finger creamy offwhite head and some shards of lacing. Nose has mildly sweet caramel/treacle character, light grassy hop aroma. More caramel and toffee on the lighter palate, slight munich malt sourness, some darker grape notes, and finishes very clean with very little bitterness, like a fruitier lager. Certainly palatable, but nothing mind-blowing.

Coppery and thin with a light head. Rich creamy malt aroma. Flavor is somewhat boring and lightly sour. A mediocre beer with a very good aroma.

Draft at Atlantic City Beerfest. Pours a thin looking clear honey brown and a small fizzy head. Malty floral aroma that isn’t to exciting. Malt forward flavor with a touch of nuttiness. Sessionable beer but nothing to seek out.

Bottle. Brown pour with a small head. Aroma is that of hops and malt. Somewhat of a bland taste for this brewery.

12-oz bottle received via trade with eaglefan538. Pours clear brown with a small, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is average malt (caramel, toffee, nutty), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leaves, earth) with notes of grapes and honey. Light bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity and bitterness.

Beer poured a beautiful caramel brown color. Aroma was sweet and earthy. Flavor was a wonderful rich malty flavor, with caramel sweetness and some nuttiness. Could pass as a brown ale, and a great one at that. A touch of bitterness at the end perfectly balanced this beer and made it crisp and refreshing despite the sweetness. I LOVED IT!
