It’s slightly sweet and malty with a slight touch of caramel. A peppery, piney bitterness hits you in the finish. A little weak in aroma. Medium bodied and smooth. thornecb (1794), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Substantial head retention with consistent micro-bubbles. Metallic and sweet with dry abrupt, bitter finish. lamas (726), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 11, 2006 Bottle. A dark amber pour with a smallish light-tan head. Roasty malts, caramel and cinnamon in the sweet aroma. Thin-bodied and highly carbonated. Hints of that sour nuttiness that’s often found in brown ales. Roasty malts and caramel sweetness also dominate the taste. The finish is slightly drying and just a bit sour. Thin and crisp. Nothing memorable. desurfer (1068), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 8, 2006 Medium dark amber body with no head. Faint aroma. Flavor is mostly roasted malts and caramel sweetness with some hoppiness. Not very alcoholic for an alt. Palate is a bit thin. RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 7, 2006 This beer offers an aroma of caramel and grain. It is a translucent brown colored solution with only a glaze of a head. This thin beer has a fruity taste that rapidly turns dry and bitter leaving the taste of rotten peanuts lingering on the palate. crzybob77 (528), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Not too shabby of a beer, not too exciting either. An easy drinkin beer that doesnt offer a whole lot, but really nothing bad though. guzzler67 (1283), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2006 Updated: Feb 8, 2009Slightly cloudy, copper apperance with a thin, off white head and sparce lacing. I like to stick my nose in the glass as soon as I pour a beer for the initial impression, then wait for it to change as it warms. This beers’ aroma was a throwback to the bohemian beers of my youth, with the fresh hops and straw notes fading to a nuttier, bready nose. Mouthfeel was medium bodied and well carbonated. Hops tasted slightly spicy, slightly fruity; nothing really dominated. Balanced nicely by malts that diplayed a subtle nuttiness. Clean, short lived finish.
Rerate Feb 09. Aroma this time around struck me as slightly smokey, more toasted malt, rounded out by caramel and freshly ground coffee bean. On the taste buds, less spicy, more fruity. Finish was medium length as opposed to short lived.. Secret Ale name dropped and rebadged as Dusseldorf Style Altbier. Kinz (2207), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 1, 2006 Updated: Apr 9, 2009Draft at Capital Ale House. Medium orange amber, OK head. Virtually no aroma. Thinnish caramel, little hops. Nothing offensive, but just not a lot going on here. RERATE: Just wanted to say how much I hate re-badges. This bottle was a bit skunky, so I will just leave up the original numbers.
