Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

This is the first beer I have had from this company. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a rich mahogany color with a large tan head. The aroma is sour, malty and nutty with a hint of chocolate. The flavor is sour and bitter with a fruity and nutty undertone and a hint of chocolate on the finish.

I liked the floral fruit aroma. This just has a very well balanced mouth feel. Nice and crisp finish. Well done.

(Bottle) Purchased at Beers of the World in Rochester, NY. Pours a medium, frothy, white head which dissipates into a thin film creeping towards the edge. The body is a cloudy brownish-amber with low carbonation. Flavour of biscuits and tin cans dance in my mouth. Wow - this stuff is awful for a Southampton! I wish I’d bought the Imperial Porter.

Fruitiness/caramel/light toffee/bread dough/nuts/and floral hopping. Very refreshing...would make a great session type ale. Crisp, dry finish and lingering hop bite in the back of the throat. Pretty good stuff.

(02.01.06) 12 oz brown bottle purchased from Archer Liquors, Chicago, IL. Clear red amber Dusseldorf-style altbier having a small tiny white head. Soft carbonation. Fruity caramel aromas. Medium bodied ale that starts dry with tiny malt sweetness, light caramel flavor, and light hop bitterness. Finishes dry with light hop bitterness. Though not one of my favorite beer styles, this is a good drinkable altbier.

Bottle. Thanks to Rayboy for bringing this one over. This one is a rich amber with a thin beige head that fades rapidly. Yeast, malts, bread and dried fruits throughout. Faint nuttiness in the taste. Finishes with a nice lingering bitterness.
