Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

Pours copper brown, with nice fizzy head that diminshes to a thing ring. Minimal lacing. Light malty aroma. Flavor of toasted malt, nuts, tea nicely balanced by hops. Medium bodied. Malty and bitter (not biting) finish that lingers and coats the back of the mouth. The finish is heavier than the start. Interesting. As with FLacoalto, I liked this one a lot more after sampling three times.

Nice, malty and smooth ale, darker than a pale, thin head, no aftertaste. decent enough!

Pours with an amber tinged light tan colored head that is frothy and almost a finger thick. The beer is a brilliantly clear deep amber color, and seems to be lightly carbonated. The aroma is quite malty with notes of toasted bread, a hint of toffee, a dry almost roasted note in the finish, a sweet fruitiness that reminds me a bit of cherries and a note that reminds me of fresh bread from the oven.

The beer is quite light on the palate up front, but begins to pick up a bit of fullness before it passes through & down my throat. In a similar vein it is pretty dry up front but picks up a sweet malty note that accentuates a light fruitiness. The beer finishes with an herbal hoppiness which lingers on as a light bitter hop bite. This beer is not nearly as hoppy as I was expecting from a Sticke Alt, but it does have a nice level of hop character, which nicely balances the malt character.

The more I sample this beer, the more I become to like it. I was a bit disappointed at first, because it was not nearly as vibrant as the better Alts I have had in Düsseldorf, but this beer is really nicely balanced between the malt and hop notes. The hops have just enough flavor contributions to keep you guessing, and the bitterness balances the malt notes with out overtaking it.

Pours light mahogany, clear with offwhite small bubbling medium head. Aroma of malt, sweet caramel. Flavor matches. Palate is as smooth as I’ve had.

Pours caramel-colored with copper highlights, a quick head and persistent effervescence. Although the description indicates this beer as being brewed with 5 German malts, I’m detecting adjunct-grain aromas. Additional light caramel malts, tea, herbacious hops and roasted nuts. Thoroughly bitter flavor with a touch of honey and a kiss of metal. Bitterness is sharp and lingering. My first Alt was <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Ratings/Beer/Beer-Rat Sticke, and it will be difficult to find one better than that.

Pours an opaque dark amber body with a moderate head. Aroma is bready with caramel. Flavor is the same, very light bitterness. Simple and uninteresting.

Courtesy of Pailhead. Pours medium amber/ slightly brown with very little head. Aroma and flavor rather weak. Some faint sweet caramel malt with tiny bit of flowery hop presence in the finish.

Pours a light mahogany amber with a medium off white fluffy head. Aroma of lighter caramel malts and slight toffee. Flavor is similar to aroma. Not picking up much hops, some creaminess.
