Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

Pours a light brown body with small head. The aroma is malt, fruit, and yeast. The flavor is sweet sugar malts and some sort of fruit.

A brown beer with little head. Aroma was a little like sour fruit. Taste is some caramel & again a sour fruit taste. The taste seems like its divided into two sections-the first part dropping off dramatically to the second with a light smooth finish. Nothing special or complex.

Bottle from goldtwins - thanks Larry! Clear amber with a large white taupe head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of grassy hops, caramel and toasted malt. Taste of crystal malt, floral and herbal hops, a touch of pepper. Mildly thin with a touch of bitterness on the back end. Goes down easy without much fanfare.

Copper colored with nice just off-white head. Big malty, caramel nose. Full palate, creamy, malty with slight hop bite. Reminded me more of a brown ale. Since I like browns, I liked this. On tap at Dive 96 in NYC.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 7/16/09

Aroma: Mostly caramel, toasted, malty, sweet, dark fruits
Appearance: Clear dark reddish-copper color, thin off-white head
Flavor: Sweet and malty, similar to the nose, minimal hop presence
Palate: Medium body
Overall Impression: This is a nice beer, heavy on the caramel malts, and not a lot else. It is still tasty, but not overly complex or powerful.

12oz bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours mahogony with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Aroma is of malt, caramel, dark fruit, and sugar. Taste is of malt, caramel, and dark fruit. It also has a lot of sugar too it as well. Mouthfeel is very carbonated and it is medium bodied. Lingering biscuity malt taste. I’m still not even sure how to rate an alt. It does taste rather thin and bland. Decent.

sample at brewery Clear copper with a hint of red. Thin tan head. Light sweet caramel aroma with a mild spice way in the background. Mostly light palate. Very light caramel notes, slight sour turn at the end. Not a whole lot of flavor, but a nice Kolsch.

Clear and dark copper on the pour with a short, off-white head with spotty lacing. The aroma was lots of malt, toffee sweetness and some hints at tart fruit. The flavor is tons of malt, toffee and some faint coffee with the same tart apple that I noticed in the aroma. Thin body.
