Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

bottle: a little water-y, but well balanced taste. Good beer in a session or even drinking a couple in a six pack. retried as the "Secret ale" I liked it a little better this time, deserves a couple points boost.

Bottle pours light brown with a thin beige head. Aroma is light nutty malt, and a little ripe cheese. Flavor is malty, lightly burnt caramel, and a nice hop finish.

From a 12oz bottle at The Flying Saucer this brew poured an amber color with a decent off white head and minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel, earthiness and some toffee. Taste was malty and earthly. Smooth. Not much in the way of hoppiness and what little was there was balanced out by the malt. I liked this beer and could easily enjoy this as a session beer.

12 oz bottle from Archer Liquors. Little aroma of hops and malts. Poured medium brown with no head and no lacing. Flavor was malty and hoppy, but well balanced. No particular flavors stood out. Easy to drink. Medium body. Average carbonation. An easy beer to drink. I liked it better than the IPA they make.

Bottle at Green Eye. Pours a clear reddish brown, disappearing head. Nose is a bit cheesy and roasty. Tasty is much the same, som ebiscuity notes and a clean roastiness. Nothing too exciting.

12 oz. bottle pours a very ruddy amber, this white head. Mild biscuit-malty nose. Pretty clean and mild bitterness. Not too exciting from a wee bottle, but it could be a real quaffer on draft, whether in a pint or lots of stanges.

12 ounce bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours a clear ruby red color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, some nutty chocolate notes and a bit of a hoppy finish. Taste is caramel, toffee, chocolate, raisin and a fairly strong hop finish. Medium bodied and refreshing, though a little uneven. Quite a nice alt.
