Commercial Description:
Most folks from the Northeast go to Florida when November arrives. But not the Southampton brewmaster, Phil Markowski. Back in 1995, Phil headed to Düsseldorf, Germany to taste the famous altbiers of the region. "Alts" are unique: less fruity than most ales but with a crisp drinkability of a lager. So what did Phil bring back from his trip? Authentic German ingredients and a recipe for an altbier that will surprise your senses. One taste and you’ll be happy that Phil decided not to go to Florida, too.

Bottled. A hazy orange beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel - and so is the flavor too with a slightly bitter finish.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours ever so slightly hazy, amber golden with a creamy, off-white head leaving laces. Lightly sweet malt aroma. Medium body with vague caramel notes and a dry finish. Decent if not exactly thrilling. 310507

Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Clearnut broen, small head. Buttery nose. Mid-sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Lightly roasty, never earthy nor soft. Feels like a simple sketch of an altbier.

A Sim Rate (bottled from Gristede’s, Manhattan): Very sweet, wine-like aroma with a hint of grape. The flavour is similar with an aftertaste of hard grape candy. But the candy-sweet flavour is minimal and more of an afterthought than overpowering. Slightly malty and a nice clean different beer.
