Bottle - thanks beerbill. Pours a very dark brown with a thick finger of tan head. Strong aroma is roasty and dry, light cocoa, and malt. Flavor is as roasty as the aroma, but adds some bitters and faint coffee. A little more cocoa. Didn’t notice the coriander until it had warmed for a while, but the yeast has that Belgian feel. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Light aromas of toasted for the malt, resin and earth for the hops and yeast, with berry and cola in the background. Head is small, creamy, light brown, with virtually no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is black. Flavor is slightly sweet and moderately acidic and sour to start, then finishes moderately acidic, bitter and sour. Palate is light to medium, watery and has a lively carbonation. Not what i was expecting. Too sour and not enough malty boldness.

In short: A highly roasted beer with red fruits flavour and a light sourness. A clash of flavours that do not work well together.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed (probably) relatively fresh two months after receiving it. Sent to me by MrChopin, thanks a lot Kevin.
The look: Black body topped by a short-lived tan head
In long: The strong (almost aggressive) nose is full of fruits esters and roastiness that don’t quite work well together. In mouth the clash of style continues. The fruity flavours are mainly red fruits and that clash with the highly roasted dry malts that taste like burnt toasts. Wild berries, red grapes and such. Even a little touch of cherries. Those fruity flavours bring a little sourness that doesn’t work here. The carbonation is more than lively Belgian style, it is totally overdone. As the beer warmed up, or my palate got used to it, the fruity flavours and sourness slowly went away and instead of being a weird clash of flavours the beer became just a bland highly roasted fruity ale of some kind. Not bad, but this brew is no more cohesive than a platoon on crack parading during a earthquake.

Courtesy dickinsonbeer. Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head that leaves spotty lacing behind on the glass. The nose shows notes of dark chocolate, caramel, roast, and a tart yeast character. The flavor follows with the chocolate and caramel up front and some coffee roast and tartness on the backend. The flavor is very dry though and maybe a touch too tart from the yeast. Medium bodied with a lot of carbonation and a dry, tart finish. Not bad for the style, but definitely not their best.

Bottle. Pours a thin black with a thin but lingering tan head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, and an interesting cherry sourness. Taste is roughly the same, with roasted malt and chocolate characteristics up front finishing with a nice tart sourness evocative of cherry lambics (did they use any brett in here?). Not your everyday stout, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

Bottle in trade from a forgotten source...Thanks! Pours black with a tan head. Smell is tart with cherry and dark roasted malt. Fizzy and bland roasty and tart flavor. Not very good. Odd misplaced sourness that doesn’t mesh well. Medium to thin body and fizzy carbonation. Nobody at the tasting really enjoyed this one, unfortunately.

Courtesy Dickinsonbeer. Pours a dark mahogany color with a translucent, chestnut hued edge. A frothy tan head gives spotty lacing. Aromas include dry cocoa, dark caramel, toasted bread, and dry, Belgian-esque yeast. The flavor shows mostly the same elements, each element seeming overly dry to me, from the cocoa and the caramel to the light coffee roast and toasted grain notes. There’s a bit of tartness from the yeast that seems just a little misguided. Medium in body, the palate is overly carbonated, fizzy, and dry. This is sub-par for a Publick House brew.

Thanks to Ryan for this bottle! Pours black with a big brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and some tart yeast. Tart flavor with some roast coffee as well.
